Atlantic Wall: D-Day to Falaise

The SPI version of Atlantic Wall was foundational in my wargaming history. But since soloing the air/beach landings and a couple turns of this GOSS version; I can’t see my self every playing the SPI version again.

The airborne landing FoW mechanic is brilliant. I enjoy both rule sets’ beach landing subsystems. I will say, holy crap, nothing since SPR has hit me with a sense of what a horrific hellscape Omaha Beach must have been. At the same time, the simple “leader unpins unit so it can move” sparks in my mind’s eye a narrative of soldiers doing what needs doing in the face of extreme adversity.

As to the rest of the game; GOSS 2020 is crisp, tight and crunchy delicious. It provides a similar endorphin rush teasing through its rules and puzzling out how to apply them successfully as does doing much the same with software code.
