===== Pelosian Religion ===== Although called Pelosian this is the most common religion in Old Kingdom, Darsis, and The Wildlands.

In Pelos most people are #Pantheists. Many holy persons follow this path as well, serving the pantheon as a whole. Others dedicate themselves to #The Three or #The Nine worshiping them together as a group. #1|(1) Outside of Pelos dedicating to one god is more common.

Many followers are nonchalant about their faith. They follow the rites and traditions but don’t expect the gods to be paying any attention or to do anything. True atheists are also not uncommon. #2|(2)

==== Pantheists ==== Worship all the gods of this pantheon. Praying/sacrificing to which ever one is appropriate for the given situation.

Pantheists understand that there is too much in the world to be controlled and tended for one entity, no matter how powerful. To them it is important that there is a balance between and amongst the gods. Followers of this pantheon feel they are responsible for maintaining this balance through worship and dedication to all the various gods.

===== Origins ===== The land, beasts, plants, heavens, none of it was created by our gods. Everything all the objects in the sky, sea, and on the land, the sky and sea itself, and even insubstantial things such as “love” and magic were made by ‘creator’.

Creator’ is not understood to be a being in any sense we would understand it. ‘Creator’ lacks trinity, he/it/she is all. One moment there was nothing, the next there was everything. That is ‘creator’.

Eventually in some far off time ‘creator’ will gather up all that was/is/will be, smash it up until there is nothing again.

Mystics of #Airlan Synarion have divined this will occur 3 to the 27th power years from when ‘creator’ made everything, whenever that was. Most Pelosians, if they think about it at all, can’t be bothered with such an unimaginably far

off event.

The gods were the first born. Dirt was created by these gods (old gods, long gone, gods of the rpg:campaigns:dirt:glossary#elders?). Then came animals and plants. Much later sentient races were born. Although not created by the gods they took pity on the first races’ ignorance and suffering. Gave them civilization. But rpg:campaigns:dirt:glossary#The Cataclysm took that all away. After that, with Pelosians, the gods were not so free with the secrets of civilization. They did leave us clues but we had to work hard to puzzle out the answers and we are stronger for it. This is the 2nd gift the gods have given us.

===== Nature of the gods ===== The are not all powerful. They exist as part of the cosmos and are bound by its nature and its limitations. Many believe the gods are “our” gods. That is they are tied and dedicated to Dirt. Their influence does not extend to other places in the glossary#Sky Sea. Those other places have their own gods. Although it is pretty certain that the gods do not live on Dirt. Some think that “Waterdrop” or “Flame” is their home now.

Long, long ago, before ‘glossary#The Cataclysm`, gods took a direct interest in the activities of the races. They brought civilization to the glossary#Elders. And if the few fragmentary records are to be believed their avatars walked freely and often with the glossary#Elders. But no longer, not since glossary#The Cataclysm

Many claim to converse with the gods and the faithful believe the gods speak through their priests. Atheists and especially Peoples of the Fist say our gods are dead or gone never to return.

===== The Pantheon ===== This is a large, confusing pantheon with many changing, and overlapping deities. Several hundred gods have been worshiped at one time or another. Not all of them detailed here.

Only #The Three commonly have dedicated temples and priests. Even in Pelos Minor where each city has a patron god #Pantheists are common. But shrines an altars to individual gods are all over. For instance every military barracks will have an altar to Creegus god of Battle.

Outside of Pelos, in Darsis and the Wildlands, it is much more common to find priests of individual gods and people mostly worshiping just one of them as opposed to being #Pantheists.

In Pelos Minor each city has a patron god, usually one of #The Nine. This stems from an event during the war of secession. Minor’s capital called apon ‘Zoryd’ to stop the invasion fleet. Zoryd caused a great storm that drove the fleet back to the Pelos Greater’s shore with few casulties. Stunned by such direct influence they accepted the Pelos Minor’s independence and amicable relations between the two were soon reached.

==== The Three ==== The ruler gods, #Gelix, #Myri, and #Lirlenion Sinrynal. They each have male, female and neuter aspects. Although Gelix is viewed a primarily male, Myri as female and Lirlenion as neuter.

They are the most important and powerful gods. They are metaphysically speaking “above” the other gods. But without the other gods the world would fail to work. In fact all the gods are needed, this is the one foundations of Pantheist belief.

The Three rarely seem to act or communicate. Some believe their actions are beyond our ability to comprehend, others see them as acting all the time everywhere around us. They transcend our understanding of sentience.

An orthodox view not held by all is that most of their “beings” are “used up” sustaining the world. i.e. The mountains, rocks, water is Gelix, well, part of him anyways. Similarly with Myri and Lirlenion for their spheres of influence.

==== The Nine ==== Confusingly there are more than nine in The Nine. Different areas of the Known world elevate different gods into this group.

The Nine are the “movers and shakers” of the pantheon. Powerful and having large spheres of influence.

Gods part of The Nine include:

#Airlan Synarion, #Beaho, #Brogine, #Creegus, #Ealnor, #Elondar, #Mylien, #Ryllan Synarion, #Sineiri Syl, #Zoryd

==== The Many Others ==== Not a distinct group just all the gods that aren’t part of #The Three or #The Nine.

There are literately hundreds of gods, here are some examples

The Arts - several sisters. song dance drawing potter(twin)

The Crafts - several brothers. wood stone metal potter(twin)

The Knowledges - several neuters. sciences

The Woodsman

==== The Gods ==== === Gelix === //”ghee-licks”// - Greator Deity (Lawful Neutral)

Gelix is one of #The Three, the major ruler gods. He has male, female and neuter aspects.

Gelix is the moutains, the rocks, the water in the rivers. He provides the materials to build civilization. He is stable and unyeilding. Unlike the transient creations of Myri when Gelix blesses your house of stone it will be their for your children and their children.

Firm like the rock, flexible like the river. This is the best way to live.”

Gelix’s symbol is an obsidian triangle point upwards. His favored weapon are picks(literal tool).

Portfolio Inanimate nature, minerals, mountains, rivers

Domains Earth, Water, Strength, Weather, Law

Cleric Training Priests of #The Three, #Pantheists, and followers of Gelix are common enough. Their training is done together at various temples, monasteries, and religious schools. For Gelix it involves long periods of silence and other forms of sensory deprevation. Such as fasting for several days and meditating in a dark windowless soundproof box. The goal is to connect with Gelix, with his nature that surrounds and permeates everything.

Quests Travelling to remote desolate locales such as mountain tops, or deep in featureless sunbacked badlands. In order to contimplate and observe what Gelix has wrought.

Prayers Prayers to Gelix are done in mass with dozens or hundreds of the gathered. No words are spoken. Instead there is much stamping of feet and smacking of arms on chests often accompaninaed by drumms. It all starts slow but increases to a fevered rate until everyone collaspes of exhaustion.

Temples The typical Pelosian temple will have statues or altars to #The Three in the middle surrounded by altars to #The Nine. Which in turn are surrounded by nooks and crannies for alters to the many others Shrines and temples dedicated specifically to Gelix will be in dramatic natural settings. e.g. cliffs, amidst raging river. They are always hand made(no magic) from natural rock and dirt.

They are often not very habitable or building like.

Rites Priests of Gelix are called upon to bless any construction or demolition of stonework and the like. They are charged with keeping Gelix “happy” and in balance with Myri and Lirlenion. So that none surpass the others Which would upset the proper order of things.

Herald and Allies Nature itself is Gelix’s Herald

=== Myri === //”mir-ee”// - Greator Deity (Chaotic Neutral)

Myri is one of #The Three, the major ruler gods. She has male, female and neuter aspects.

Myri is life. She causes flowers to bloom and babies to cry thier first breath. Myri is death. She is in the lion when it kills a dear and decays the dead. She drives the cycle of renewal. Without which the world would be sterile, unchanging, lump of rock and we’d all be stuck silently contemplating Gelix’s Greatness. So thank Myri when she next comes to sprout your crops or still your breath.

Round and round the wheel of life we go.”

Symbol is a mobios strip on a green triangle pointing down. Myri’s favored weapon is the sickle(the farm impliement).

Portfolio Living nature, plants, animals

Domains Animal, Plant, Death, Healing, Chaos

Cleric Training Priests of #The Three, Myri, and #Pantheists common enough. Their training is done together at various temples, monasteries, and religious schools. For Myri this means learning about plants and animals, about birth and death. But not from books in stuffy temples, rather out there in nature surrounded by the living and dieing. Planting things and killing things.

Quests Myri is not fond of quests. She expects her priests to always be an active part of life.

Prayers Consist of shouts, songs, music, dancing. Animal sacrifice and burning of plants often fragrant are common so is animal breeding. Less common than the songs of bards would have you believe are orgies or intercourse of a single married couple.

Temples The typical Pelosian temple will have statues or altars to #The Three in the middle surrounded by altars to #The Nine. Which in turn are surrounded by nooks and crannies for alters to the many others Shrines and temples dedicated specifically to Myri are covered in plants and filled with animals. They are often hospitals and/or crematoriums.

Rites Births, deaths, plantings, harvests are all events Myri priests commonly precide over. They are charged with keeping Myri “happy” and in balance with Gelix and Lirlenion. So that none surpass the others

Which would upset the proper order of things.

When Flame leaves the night sky to join Waterdrop in the eigth month there is a great celebration. There are important religious reasons but most Pelosians look forward to it as one honking big party. Many children are born nine months later.

At the end of the year the “Death of the past” and “Birth of the future” rites are performed. This is a solemn event. And popular time for divinations.

Herald and Allies Every animal and plant you see is a herald of Myri.

=== Lirlenion Sinrynal === //”leer-lay-nee-on see-nrile-nal”// - Greater Deity (Neutral)

Lirlenion is one of #The Three, the major ruler gods. It has male, female and neuter aspects.

Lirlenion Sinrynal provides the force thet burns wood and freezes water. Without Lirlenion there would be no magic for Lirlenion is magic and magic is Lirlenion. When you consider wanton Myri or stoic Gelix it is Lirlenion that gives you the ability to think. Without it we would be as mindless as the river rock watching water flow by or the goat chewing on grass.

Think, the answer will come to you.”

Lirlenion’s holy symbol is a bluish-white sphere cracked nearly in two and its favored weapon is the Pelosian broadsword(treat as longsword).

Domains Fire, Cold, Force, Magic, Mind

Cleric Training Priests of #The Three, #Pantheists, and Lirlenion Sinrynal are common. Their training is done together at various temples, monasteries, and religious schools. For Lirlenion it starts with studying the great philosophers and mystics, along with fundementals of elemental magic. Then it continues with many debates, tests, puzzles, and contests. After that more studying, Myri doesn’t have a monopoly on cycles.

Quests Priests of Lirlenion frequenty spend months researching some arcane obscure subject. They are also fond of devising and solving intricate mental puzzles.

Some great libraries started out as temples to Lirlenion.

Rites Priests of Lirlenion oversee the refferendums in Pelos. They also bless new senators and representatives accepting their oaths.

In Pelos Minor the day of seccession is celebrated Lirlenion priests provide pyrotechnics, light shows, and other magical celebrations.

In Darsis crimes dictate a form of execution where two Priests alternativly freeze and burn the criminial until they are dead.

They are also charged with keeping Lirlenion “happy” and in balance with Myri and Gelix. So that none surpass the others. Which would upset the proper order of things.

=== Airlan Synarion === //”a-earl-an se-na-ree-on”// - Intermediate Deity (Chaotic Good)

The Watcher is one of #The Nine. She sees and knows all but these heavy burdens have driven her insane. She warns the other gods of their doom but her cryptic mutterings and crazed rants they cannot comprehend.

She is a comely Pelosian with unkept “crazy woman” hair. Her arms are twisted at odd angles and clawing at unknown worries. She often contorts her body in an effort to see or hear better. Airlan’s normal attire is a oversized dingy white smock, but, she sometimes forgets to dress.
